Dr. Nandikonda is board certified in  Internal Medicine by  American Board of Internal Medicine(ABIM). She is board eligible for Rheumatology by American Board of Medical Specialities(ABMS).

Dr. Sumalatha Nandikonda began her medical journey at one of India’s premier medical institutions. Following her graduation from medical school, she moved to the United States to pursue advanced training, completing a rigorous three-year Internal Medicine Residency at Lankenau Medical Center, part of Main Line Health in Philadelphia, PA.

After gaining valuable experience as a Hospitalist, Dr. Nandikonda followed her passion for Rheumatology and joined the Rheumatology Clinic at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, MO. During her three years there, she developed a strong foundation in diagnosing and treating a wide range of rheumatologic conditions.

Eager to deepen her expertise, Dr. Nandikonda pursued additioanl Two year fellowship training in Rheumatology at the University of Central Florida/HCA Florida Healthcare/VA Medical Center in Lake Nona, Orlando,Florida—one of the top programs in the country. Over the course of her two-year fellowship, she trained under a distinguished group of rheumatologists, gaining comprehensive experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Dr. Nandikonda has a special interest and extensive experience in complex autoimmune diagnostics, including ordering and interpreting intricate autoimmune panels. She is skilled in diagnosing and managing challenging rheumatologic diseases with the latest, evidence-based treatment approaches. She also specializes in trigger point injections, has expertise in joint injections, and is experienced in prescribing and managing biologic infusions.

 Her collaborative work with specialists across disciplines enhances patient outcomes. She partners with pulmonologists in the management of interstitial lung disease, vascular surgeons for biopsies essential to diagnosing vasculitis and polymyalgia rheumatica, and oncologists to co-manage autoimmune conditions in cancer patients. She also values the continued support and collaboration with her fellow rheumatology colleagues, which contributes to high-level, patient-centered care and decision-making in complex cases.

During her free time, Dr. Sumalatha Nandikonda enjoys spending time at the beach with her family, cooking and baking, and going fishing with her two sons.
